With Lunis® 2, Siteco lays the foundations for a new and universally applicable downlight family. Lunis® 2 Micro and Lunis® 2 Mini for LED, TC and HIT light sources are the first versions to be presented at Light+Building 2010.

The starting shot is fired at Light+Building 2010 for a new downlight family from lighting specialists Siteco. Optical diversity and intelligence of construction promise universality, because the Lunis® 2 range will offer premium grade lighting solutions for all functional building applications. Lighting designers will be able to efficiently illuminate a complete building with a homogeneous design language, and installers and facility management profit alike from simple mounting and maintenance of the system.

The versions: a finely graded repertoire

The new Lunis® 2 downlight range will be available in various sizes and models. A wide spectrum of room geometries and application areas can be covered with the four Micro, Mini, Midi and Maxi construction sizes. All sizes can be freely combined, but thanks to intelligent configuration also allow differing lighting tasks to be fulfilled with one luminaire diameter. A further merit of all Lunis® 2 downlights is their low recess depth.

The lighting technology: good glare elimination – horizontal and vertical lighting

With its flexibility with regard to various lamp technologies and thanks to a wide reflector spectrum, the new downlight family is able to take on all possible lighting functions. Whether accent lighting, general lighting or glare-free light for computer screen workstations, lamps and reflectors can be combined in such a way that a custom solution is always at hand.

In terms of precise free-form reflectors, lighting designers can choose between various surface characteristics (including alusoft matt, facetted and white). The whole range of distribution characteristics (e.g. spot, BAP 65, wallwasher) has been optimised with regard to efficient light control. A special technology for vaporising the reflection layer additionally increases the reflection factor.

In addition to the current LED light sources, the downlights will also be equipped with metal halide lamps (HIT), halogen lamps (QT) and compact fluorescent lamps (TC). In order to adapt the lighting effects to special conditions, the luminaire family also has a wide spectrum of optical accessories at its disposal.

The design: adaptable elegance

Even when a recessed luminaire almost completely disappears into the ceiling, its light aperture still contributes to the overall impression of an interior. The new downlights from Siteco have been designed by Graeme Watt, and from the underside display a narrow edge with an attractive radius completely surrounded by a shadow gap. The result is that the viewer perceives a very clearly defined contour. In addition the shadow gap creates a floating, light impression. If the luminaires are to be installed flush into the ceiling, this can be optionally implemented via mounting, whereby the reflector is adapted to the recessing level to achieve a completely flush transition between luminaire and ceiling surface.

The handling: intelligent convenience

Lunis® 2 downlights already exhibit a high level of functionality during the mounting phase. Mounting rings, housing, reflectors and cover ring can be installed completely without tools. In order to securely anchor the mounting ring into the ceiling, lightly pressing the lever of a well thought-out spring mechanism with thumb and index finger suffices.

Fitting of lamps or relamping is just as convenient, ensured by the special 'Lamp Holder Movement' solution (LHM). Thanks to LHM, with the Lunis® 2 Micro for example the reflector can be moved downwards for relamping, giving even large hands enough room for movement. The LHM mechanism not only avoids damage to the reflector and lamps during relamping, but also enables tool-free adjustment of the multiwatt position thanks to the variable position of the lamp holder.

The LED Twist modules achieves future compatibility with the LED downlight versions: as with conventional lamps they can be easily replaced with possibly more efficient successors at a later date.

Lunis® 2  Micro and Mini downlights show the way

Siteco presents the first Lunis® 2  models from the range at Light+Building 2010: Micro downlights with LED and HIT light sources and Mini downlights with LED, HIT and TC sources mark the beginning, each with different beam distribution characteristics. The program will be successively expanded. Suitable Lunis® 2  downlights will be available for almost all optical requirements in buildings and for a wide variety of recessing situations by the middle of 2011.
