Siteco offers LED outdoor luminaires for all applications

Both the classic, proven town and park luminaires as well as the DL500 midi, SQ 50 and SR 50 are immediately available as LED variants. In addition the company also presents LED luminaires with completely new design approaches at Light+Building 2010.

The luminous efficacy of high power LEDs is today significantly greater than 100 lm/W, and this will continue to increase in the coming years. This means that in terms of efficiency, LEDs now surpass mean wattage high pressure sodium vapour lamps, a fact that qualifies them to be an interesting light source for streetlighting. As well as a positive energy balance, LED technology has quite a few more advantages to offer: their long service life for example reduces maintenance costs. And in addition LEDs can be dimmed from 0 to 100%, not only without loss but even along a progressive characteristic curve. The luminous flux of LEDs increases with a reduction of temperature. Thus outdoor lighting applications with night temperatures typical of our latitudes are not only no problem but indeed a particularly efficient application sector for the luminous semiconductors.

LED light for roads according to standards

Despite the many technological benefits, LED solutions for the lighting of roads according to standards are not a matter of course. The development of a high performance LED luminaire requires constructive and optical expertise. In this regard, LEDs need effective heat dissipation for cost-efficient and reliable operation, and the relatively small area via which LEDs emit light demands custom-made optics design.

The lighting specialist Siteco has mastered such challenges and now offers its well-known SQ 50, SR 50 and DL500 midi outdoor luminaires as LED variants as well. Dependable housing technology, proven design and professional lighting technology are united in the new luminaire models. Existing lighting systems with SQ 50, SR 50 and DL500 midi and equipped with conventional lamps can now be supplemented and expanded with LED luminaire variants. A uniform, continuous design is maintained and the familiar road appearance is kept, even with the integration of state-of-the-art technology. Even with wide luminaire spacing the new LED luminaires from Siteco ensure homogeneous illumination of roads and streets according to DIN EN 13201. All three models are available with asymmetric light distribution with 4500º Kelvin light colour.

In order to precisely adapt the performance data of the luminaires to concrete application requirements, the installer sets his electronic operating systems individually via the Siteco Service Box. He simply connects the box behind the junction box after luminaire installation. Individual operating parameters can then be defined or complete software files stored in the memory of the operating system. The Service Box is then removed again. The result is an energy-optimised luminaire system for customers without the need to invest in additional control components.

Designing urban spaces with LED lighting tools

Siteco has also made its LED technology fit for the most popular town and park luminaires. The LED Module 520 has been integrated into the Mushroom Luminaire, Lantern, Lantern Classic, Lantern Deluxe, City Light Plus, City Light Elegance as well as the City Light Bollard and City Light Pillar. The module enables towns and local authorities to save enormous quantities of energy with outdoor lighting, significantly improve light quality and at the same time maintain the familiar urban appearance.

The key to such sustainability is found in the Siteco LED gear tray technology: light sources, optics, thermal management and control gear are all accommodated by a central module. This completely functional and closed unit renders the installation of control gear within masts a thing of the past. Simultaneously this construction ensures that future, more powerful LED generations can be easily retrofitted, or that existing luminaire systems featuring conventional lamps can be modernised according to the latest state of technology.

The town and park luminaires with LED Module 520 are available with two light distribution patterns (symmetric and asymmetric) and two colour temperatures (3000 and 4000 Kelvin). This enables nearly all lighting tasks to be solved for applications including residential streets, town squares, parks and gardens.

Dimming instead of switching off

With both Siteco LED road luminaires and LED town and park luminaires, intelligent lighting control makes additional economic and ecological potential available and at the same time improves visual comfort. The luminaires are equipped with an electronics module that allows power reduction via control wire. Light can be dimmed according to needs. And the key here is that lumen output of the LEDs does not sink in proportion to power input. The semiconductor characteristic of the LEDs and their intelligent control ensures that with a reduction of power input to 35%, lumen output is still emitted at 50%.

This function is particularly interesting for those operators that due to cost factors still switch off every second luminaire. By dimming instead of switching off they not only save 15% more energy, but also illuminate the road more uniformly. Brightness levels are harmonious, and the eye can adjust well to the lighting conditions. Visual perception and therefore safety in road traffic is optimally supported.

The wave of innovation rolls forward

The Siteco DL500 midi LED, SQ 50 LED and SR 50 LED road luminaires and the complete range of town and park luminaires will be presented by Siteco at the Light+Building trade fair from 11. to 16. April 2010 in Hall 2.0 (Festhalle), Stand B10. In Siteco City 2010 during Light+Building Siteco will also be showing completely new design concepts with LED technology: with a decorative outdoor luminaire and a technical road luminaire Siteco takes advantage of the miniature format of LEDs for completely new housing designs, according to the motto 'form follows function'. Both are expected to be available as series luminaires from autumn or at the end of 2010.
